FAQs about Imani

What does Pan-African mean?   Pan-Africanism is a worldwide intellectual movement that aims to encourage and strengthen bonds of solidarity between all people of African descent. This includes the entire African diaspora.

Who’s invited?  Black college students!  Whether you are an international student, African,  African American, or Afro-Caribbean.  You are welcome!  You are welcome if you consider yourself a Christian or if you do not consider yourself a Christian.  You are welcome if you are a part of InterVarsity or not a part of an InterVarsity Chapter.  We are excited to see you all there!

What should I expect? There will be a variety of speakers, both men and women.  We will worship in different styles representing different parts of the African diaspora and their various Christian traditions.  We will have seminars and breakouts during Saturday.  Lastly, we will have two other InterVarsity conferences in the same building, Ohana and Mi Gente.  We will be together during meal time as well as on Sunday morning.

What should I bring? Warm, but comfortable clothing, toiletries, and important tools that you use to worship or connect with God such as your bible, electronic devices, and notebooks to write down important information you wish to take back to your campus. You may also want to bring a snack for the ride and games to play.

What if I can’t afford the registration cost? Talk with your local InterVarsity staff to get scholarship information.  You can also email us directly at bcmimani17@gmail.com and we will help you in the process.  Don’t let money be the reason you don’t come!

When’s the last time to register?
Early registration deadline: 1/29/16, $125
Cost after 1/29/16: $175

What meals will be provided? There will be a continental breakfast each morning and Saturday evening meal will be provided as well.  You are responsible for your meals when traveling on Friday and Sunday.  Saturday lunch will also be on your own.  In addition to restaurants in walking distance, there will be a hotel lunch offered at a reasonable college student price.
